The magically unexpected
Alors, je dois practicer mon francais! J'ai peut...
In 3 hours, I am leaving my place in JP to go to BOS (Logan Airport). From there I will travel to London, and visit Caitlin Crabtree and Christel Adamczyk till Tuesday. I head over to France for some magic and hanging out with Amanda Gray in Grenoble. My France plans are not certain, however. I am curious to see how things will reveal themselves shortly. After France, back to London to see Christel's recital (yay!)! Then back to the state on Wednesday, leaving the magic behind, facing the endless responsibilities I have created for myself. Why can't this trip be a little longer? (Because I have to write a paper, accompany 2 singers, prepare a presentation on a piece of mine and programming "Pianophase" into MAX/MSP, arrange stuff for a recital hopefully on 7 May, rehearse Scats with Ilana, finish the guitar piece, finish the flute/piano piece, finish the concerto, research summer jobs, practice my songs with Scott while finding time to commiserate, practice Emily's trio, find something to put on the May TNNM [if it isn't the completed miniature song cycle for Baritone and piano], perhaps start research on Doctoral programs ... and yes, I can go on...)
One time I went to New York, thinking I would stay with Amanda Gray (the person with whom I'm meeting up in France... maybe). For some reason, that week I could not get in touch with her, and in New York, I also couldn't. I frantically called my friend Ricca - no luck. I thought about staying with this girl Emily Basileo, but I didn't have her number at the time, and I wasn't sure if she was in NY (she was a student at NYU at the time, and this was a break). So, I called my friend Pat - and he came through. It was pretty magical. BUT not as magical as when I went up to NYC for the first time with my friend Annabel. We ate lunch at the UN (I had a rack of lamb, to die for!!), and at Grand Central, she showed me the arch that carries whispers over the dome (so cool), AND I RAN INTO AMANDA GRAY!!! Quel etrange!? Hopefully some of the same type of magic will happen in Europe. I'm actually starting to feel it, and am getting extremely happy!
